Travel Guide

Angus & Caitlyn Dates

• 11–15 November | Sydney

• 15–23 November | Byron Bay

General Travel Guidance

Depending on how much time you have in Australia and what you’d like to see, we recommend visiting Byron Bay plus one other destination.

• Sydney is magical and where Angus grew up — we can strongly recommend it and help suggest a wonderful itinerary for anyone visiting.

• Alternatively, if you’d like to explore other areas such as the Great Barrier Reef, Tasmania, or Uluru (the large rock in the desert), we’re happy to suggest incredible places to stay and visit.

Itinerary Timing Options

1. Sightsee after the wedding

o We suggest arriving at least 2 days before the welcome party to settle in.

2. Sightsee before the wedding

o Or both, depending on how long you’re able to travel for.

✈️ Flight Routes

We highly recommend avoiding Los Angeles (LAX) if possible. Layovers there are often long and unpleasant. However if you want to break up the journey with a stopover, LA can work for a night or two, but if flying straight through, Dallas or Houston are much smoother options.

Recommended Routes

1. Charleston → Dallas → Sydney or Brisbane
(American Airlines + Qantas)

2. Charleston → Houston → Sydney
(United Airlines)

3. Charleston → Los Angeles → Sydney or Brisbane
(Delta, United, American, Qantas, others)

There are others but these are the most straight forward

Getting to Byron Bay

If flying into Sydney

You’ll need a connecting flight to Gold Coast or Ballina:

• Gold Coast → ~45-minute drive to Byron

• Ballina → ~30-minute drive to Byron

o Fewer daily flights from Sydney to Ballina compared to Gold Coast

If flying into Brisbane

• Brisbane → ~2-hour drive to Byron Bay

• We’re planning to rent a mini-bus during the week and can do some Brisbane pick-ups if needed.

• Alternatively:

o Rent a car (recommended)

o Shuttle services

o Uber
